As a writer and traveler, I've had an interest for the unusual and the unexplained. Long before I ventured around the world, I embarked on journeys within my own country, Australia, and stumbled upon mysterious events. One such experience that intrigued me was the phenomenon known as the Min Min light.
The Min Min light, a mysterious occurrence and is associated with the outback Queensland town of Boulia, situated about 1700 kilometers west of Brisbane. This unexplained light is a tantalizing enigma, appearing in the dark outback night, just beyond the reach of comprehension. Sometimes it behaves as a lone object, remaining at a fixed distance, while at other times, it appears to follow people, splits into two or three, and dances above the tree canopy. It's a mesmerizing spectacle that has baffled generations.
Numerous theories have emerged over the years, attempting to explain the Min Min lights. In the time of my travels, there was no quick Google search to provide answers. My father, the driver during our trip in the area of the the Min Min light, wasn't particularly keen on lingering to investigate this enigmatic light. He was more concerned about avoiding kangaroos bouncing onto the road, potentially causing damage to our car. Around dusk is never a good time to be travelling on roads known for large Roos. But for me, the questions persisted What was this light? Some people questioned if it was a spirit? Ghosts? Or perhaps visitors from another planet?
While more recent research and studies may have shed some light on the Min Min phenomenon, back then, it remained a mystery, shrouded in the vastness of the Australian outback. The outback, with its lonely highways and minimal artificial lighting, can foster a sense of solitude and contemplation. Could the Min Min light be a practical joke, someone out with a torch, aiming to spook travelers?
Unexplained phenomena became a source of fascination, an element I wanted to explore and understand further. As I continued my travels, I found myself visiting places like The Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve, located 110 kilometers south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory of Australia. This remote place is home to large, mysterious boulders, scattered across the barren landscape.
While my travels introduced me to the mysteries of the outback, they also nurtured my curiosity about extraterrestrial life. The notion of aliens, visitors from another planet, began to intrigue me.
What would they be like? What if they existed, and how would their world differ from ours? How would they travel around their planet or through the cosmos? These questions have been the subject of speculation and wonder for generations.
The prospect of life on other planets has captivated the imaginations of countless individuals throughout history. It made me ponder whether this could be the foundation for a children's story book, something that could encourage young minds to explore the possibilities of the universe. My alien characters would be of a cartoon appearance- they are intended to be fun and not an alien created in destruction and control of planet, Earth. Maybe they can save the Earth or teach us something or remind us of something important.
Inspired by Maya Angelou's poem "Human Family," (I hope you will google her poem). I envisioned a my book about aliens, each one unique in appearance, much like the diversity of our own human family. The central theme would revolve around acceptance and embracing those who are different, fostering a sense of unity and understanding, even in the face of the unknown.
My travels through the Australian outback, encounters with the Min Min light, and explorations of the Devil's Marbles not only left me with vivid memories but also a treasure trove of ideas and inspirations. The mysterious and the unexplained continue to be a wellspring of creativity, allowing me to craft stories that I hope will transport readers to worlds of wonder and intrigue, where curiosity and acceptance reign supreme.
